Sonam Kapoor made a triumphant return to London Fashion Week after a two-year hiatus, her last attendance being at Emilia Wickstead in 2021. The Indian fashion icon created quite a buzz by being the sole Indian celebrity invited to Burberry’s Spring/Summer ’24 show at London Fashion Week, and she certainly lived up to the expectations.
Styled by her sister Rhea Kapoor and assisted by Abhilasha Devnani, the star of “Blind” donned a head-to-toe ensemble from Burberry’s Resort 2024 collection, marking her second time wearing this label. Her outfit consisted of an ankle-length coat layered over a high-neck knee-length straight-fit dress, both adorned with the signature Burberry check print. However, the creative director, Daniel Lee, gave the print a makeover, creating an optical illusion when the two pieces were paired together, especially at the bottom of the coat. As for accessories, Sonam carried an electric blue calf leather Medium Knight bag, a fitting choice since electric blue is Burberry’s house color under Lee’s direction. She completed the look with stud earrings, a natural makeup look with nude lips, and sleek straight hair parted down the center.
While this isn’t Sonam’s first time wearing Burberry, it’s her first appearance showcasing the current creative director’s collections. Interestingly, she previously sported a similar green Burberry outfit with experimental checks at Wimbledon 2023, also from the label’s 2024 Resort collection designed by Lee. The former creative director of Bottega Veneta took the helm from Riccardo Tisci last year and made his debut for the label with the Fall/Winter 2023 collection in London.
Sonam Kapoor has a long history with Burberry, having last appeared for the brand at a fashion week in 2015 for their Spring/Summer Menswear 2016 Collection when Christopher Bailey was the creative director. Lee’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection featured various elements, including monogrammed outfits and bold tropical prints on dresses and jackets. Surprisingly, the house color was less prominent, with electric blue making occasional appearances, and the collection encompassed a diverse range of styles, from flowing asymmetrical silhouettes to structured trench coats.
