Greta Gerwig, the brilliant mind behind the blockbuster hit Barbie, featuring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in lead roles, has ruled out the possibility of a sequel for the movie.
In a candid conversation with The New York Times, the acclaimed director, who recently surpassed a record previously held by “The Dark Knight,” discussed her thoughts on making another Barbie film.
“I wanted to create something anarchic, wild, funny, and cathartic,” expressed Greta Gerwig, known for her directorial success with “Little Women.” “The fact that it’s actually being received that way is sort of extraordinary.”
The film “Barbie” has been met with resounding success, as per Variety reports, grossing an impressive $26 million in North America on a single Monday, surpassing the earnings of Christopher Nolan’s hit superhero film, “The Dark Knight,” which garnered $24.6 million (not adjusted for inflation).
Yet, despite the film’s triumph, Gerwig remains uncertain about delving into a sequel. She shared, “At this moment, it’s all I’ve got. I feel like that at the end of every movie, like I’ll never have another idea and everything I’ve ever wanted to do, I did.”
While she wouldn’t want to extinguish anyone else’s aspirations, Gerwig admitted that, for her, she feels creatively spent at the moment. “I’m at totally zero,” she revealed.
Meanwhile, the live-action Barbie movie continues to make waves, captivating both audiences and critics alike with its charm and ingenuity.
The film has garnered positive reviews, further solidifying Greta Gerwig’s reputation as a talented and innovative director. As her latest masterpiece continues to receive accolades, fans eagerly anticipate what future projects she may have in store.
