Is your spirit animal Garfield? Are you the happiest when you’re wrapped like a burrito in your blanket? Do you want to work out but just utterly and totally lack the motivation? Well then, the universe has conspired to get you here.
Sure, working out releases endorphins that make you feel good but sometimes that’s not motivation enough. Especially if you lack determination and consistency. Don’t be ashamed, most of us do. And we’re here to correct that. Not by spewing cliché fitness affirmations at you but by handing you some tips and hacks you can do to keep yourself motivated and excited to work out. Do them all and you’ll never miss a day in the gym again!
Find Yourself a Workout Buddy
Let’s start at the very beginning, shall we? If you snooze all the thousand alarms you keep and have missed 15 of your morning workouts, it’s okay. Don’t beat yourself up. Find yourself a workout buddy. Someone who knows your fitness goals and also knows your penchant for procrastination. This person will motivate you against becoming one with your bed and you will, obviously, do the same for them. Besides, working out is always more fun when you have someone to suffer with you.

Make a Playlist Full of Upbeat Songs
If against all forces of the universe, you do manage to get yourself out of the clutches of your blanket and decide to go for a run this is what you need. A playlist full of songs that will pump you up. Even if that means listening to full-blast Punjabi songs at 6 am. No one is going to judge you. It makes jogging seem like less of a herculean task. And isn’t that what everyone wants?
Lay Out Your Outfit the Night Before
Don’t raise your eyebrow. We know that your motivation to work out is in negative but this small trick has the potential to change that. Before you go to bed, pick out your workout clothes and lay them out. Keep your shoes ready and fill a water bottle as well and keep it there. There is something about seeing everything all ready in the morning that will make you want to get out of bed and head for your workout. Sure, you could pick out your clothes in the morning but think back to your mornings and note just how easy it is for you to convince yourself to go back to sleep. When you have everything you need ready and laid out, what’s your excuse?
Turn Everyday Activities into Small Exercises
Take the stairs instead of waiting for the elevator. If you drop something, bend and pick it up. Dust your shelves and clean your kitchen floor by yourself and as often as you can. These are just a few examples of how our day-to-day activities can be turned into exercises. When you consciously become more active in your day-to-day life in motivates you which makes integrating proper workouts in there becomes easy.
Take Gym Selfies
A tangible way of tracking progress, gym selfies serve more purpose than showing off your practically non-existent biceps. If you take a before and after picture of your workout every day (you don’t necessarily have to post them), you’ll be able to see your fitness goals being achieved. Of course, this won’t happen overnight and it will take a little bit of patience and a whole lot of consistency but the day you do start seeing that progress, you’ll never want to stop. And you’ll have selfies to thank!
